I’ve been an AVON Representative now for 14 months and love what I do, and love sharing it with people, too. Most of all, I have FUN doing it, challenging myself to do this, or that, and especially when I do fairs or other events. AVON is a household name and has been since I was a child, “ding-dong, AVON calling” is probably one of the most well-known jingles of the 20th century but many do not know that it has been around since the 1880’s and was originally the California Perfume Company. The very first AVON lady, still honored today with awards in her name, was Mrs. P F Albee. There is a timeline of the AVON company on my website You simply register, click on shop now, and then “About AVON” at the bottom of the left hand column, and on the next page, History and Timeline. As a home business, AVON fits most people pretty well. The company says they are “The Company for Women … and a Few Good Men” and it seems men are swelling our ranks more each day. And they sell very well, so AVON really has become a company for everyone. Many people wanting to get involved in a home-based business are already strapped for cash, and the cost involved to get in with some of the other good legitimate companies out there, is often more than these people can afford. AVON’s up-front cost is only $10, which is well within the range of most people, and the kit really provides everything a person needs to get them started earning money in their first two campaigns, as well as a training manual, samples, and 2 DVD’s that go over the business opportunities. AVON also offers free training courses on its website, which all reps have access to, and the training classes are on everything from skin care to money-management and team development. There are also meetings held monthly, which are not mandatory but are always informative and fun, and the networking among the reps is usually awesome. My manager, Jennifer Tebeau, is wonderful and always available, and my Advanced Leader, Glori Gossett, is as well. I try to model my dealings with the people that I recruit on how they have treated me. One thing I do tell people though, is that it doesn’t matter which business you get into, the only way to make a success of it is to WORK at it. With companies like AVON, they have all the tools you need, you simply need to utilize them. Some companies make you have a minimum order amount, AVON doesn’t but that doesn’t mean that you can place an order of $10 a campaign and expect to make enough money to stay home and support yourself. It does mean you have everything you need and then with some effort on your part, you can BUILD a business that may accomplish this in a year or two. Two things to remember are that you need to continually work ANY business and AVON is no exception, and that if you provide excellent customer service then your customers will return to you time and again. I am constantly adding to my customer base, as most of my customers order every other or every third or fourth campaign; by continually gaining new customers, I know my orders will remain somewhat stable because of the amount of orders I will be submitting each time. Likewise, I am continually recruiting for my downline, and I have people who join me for different reasons - some simply to get their AVON at a discount, some to sell maybe to family and friends, and others who (like me) want a bigger piece of the pie. You lose people. Things happen in their lives and the business is no longer a number one priority, so again, you are always needing to find new team members to replace those who leave, in order to keep your business stable. And if you want to GROW your business, then you need to be doing both of these things at a higher rate than just to maintain the status quo. Nowadays, with the explosion of the internet, businesses have to be a part of that medium, and AVON has made it easy by providing all its reps with a free website that they can utilize for training and ordering purposes, and which has a wealth of information on. Some of us though opt to get our own personalized website, known as e-rep, which we can then market our product through and service our customers from. There is a small fee for this, but it is well worth it. Part of having your own website is the Web Office tool which offers organizing and communication tools, my favourite being the invoicing tool which enables me to invoice my customers professionally. If you are looking for a home-based business, AVON may be the one to suit you. Many reps began because they were stay home moms, and because it is a business that works well around your family. It is also a household name and constantly receiving industry awards for its innovations , as well as being one of the top selling companies in the USA. I’ve found it’s been a fun way for me to add an extra income and my goal is to be one of those who make a living from their own business. The tax benefits are very useful too - all my business expenditures are tax deductible plus when we had a man from H&R Block speak at one of our meetings recently, I found out that because I have permanent advertising on my vehicle that ALL my mileage is tax deductible (last year it was 44c a mile). So, despite making approximately $300 a month, I will probably get a refund again this year -and I don’t even claim anything for a home office. AVON history source Rose Dempsey has been a AVON Unit Leader for a year and has a downline of 22 people.
